XKEYWORD: HD-model

Hydrodynamic Model

Babiker-1992 seems to have a good description of this HD-model, which requires mechanical boundary-conditions, and not EM ones as the dielectric continuum one does.

In heterostructures, LO-phonon modes are, er, phonons, but TO-phonon and IP-phonons are (strictly speaking) phonon-polaritons.

In the end, though, the hybrid-phonon model is best, and the mechanical boundary-conditions of the HD-model are incorporated into it.

The motivation for the HD-model seems to have been ramam measurements, for which the DC-model was inadequate. However, if you belive Babiker-1992's convincing (or forceful) arguments, the HD-model, does label the resulting phonon modes more consistently, and does not mislead on the nature of the electron - phonon interaction.
